Case Study 8: Rapid Gravity Filters for Major Works

Site A major water treatment works comprising of six rapid gravity filters.
Objective To replace the existing filter media with Anthracite and replace all
valves on each filter. It was known that loss of sand had been a problem in the past.
Solution Using a hired in Vactor and employing an Educter (designed and built  in-house ) together with diesel water pumps we emptied and disposed of all media and replaced it with new Anthracite to the correct grade.
All valves were replaced with electrically operated wafer pattern butterfly valves.
Notes Fully tested and achieved correct filtration rate first time without loss of
filter media.
